Celiann M. Sanchez Rivera

Position: INRO Postbaccalaureate Fellow

Education: BS Microbiology, Biology, University
of Puerto Rico, Humacao Campus

Celiann’s goal is to understand how fungal communities contribute to the healing processes of chronic wounds. To do so, she uses ITS1 sequencing to analyze fungal communities in Buruli Ulcers. She can then investigate the complex interactions between fungal and bacterial communities to gain an idea of the dynamics within these wounds. Ultimately, her research will provide valuable information for the development of targeted interventions and improved wound management strategies.

Career Goal: Celiann’s goal is to pursue an MD with a focus in emergency medicine.
