The factors underlying susceptibility to infection and progression to disease are still not well understood. Hosts are colonized by billions of microbes which interact to form complex communities which may be perturbed during infection. Our goal is to understand how the microbiome is impacted by pathogens, and how this contributes to health and disease.

We are integrating information from host infection response and microbial ecology, including antibiotic resistance genes, to identify important markers of disease outcome.
